410 vs 404 Errors

When a user attempts to navigate to a URL or web page that is not available on the server, a 410 error occurs. The link is no longer available and will not exist again.

The 404 error means the page cannot be found. Although the web page is present on the server, the server cannot find it. There are a few reasons this could happen:

A link from your web page to another site is incorrect
Your web page has been removed or unpublished
You can change the permalink

These errors may not be ideal for BigCommerce SEO purposes but it is better to have a site with a 410 error rather than a website with a URL that has a URL that leads to a 404 error. BigCommerce doesn’t allow eCommerce websites to create more than 410 pages. However, the platform allows for 404s.
